Light cars are amazing. Double wishbones are amazing.
I went from a heavy car with this

.
.
To a car 1200lbs lighter with this
And I am in heaven.
Either Mr Regular doesn't really know what he's talking about (or there was something wrong with teh civic he drove) or there is a significant difference between my 1998 civic and the 2002 he drove, because I went gofast around some bends last night for the first time, comfortably sitting 10mph faster than I'd ever dare go in the Murdersofa, and I let off the throttle ever so slightly and was rewarded with the back starting to pull outwards. Maybe it was my imagination, but that really seemed like liftoff oversteer and that makes me very happy.
On one hand I want to modify my suspension to make it go better, but on the other hand I'm fine with how it handles and I love how it rides and I don't want to ruin it... ugh. Decisions.

Welcome to European thinking.
I personally welcome you and hope you stay.

Either Mr Regular doesn't really know what he's talking about
Or maybe you're comparing driving it to a Buick …….

7th gen+ has struts.

It was more than just talk; you could see right there in the video the point where the car started to plow.
Does yours have any suspension mods?

Now if we can just get you into something with correct wheel drive, twice the power and double wishbone suspension you will really be happy.

Idea: Strip and cage the Murdersofa.

No, it all looks stock. No sway bars or anything, still a pretty large amount of body roll. The difference is it has better (not wider, but slightly softer) tires. That might be the cause.

Simplify, then add lightness.

So my 6th gen has double wishbone, and the 7th has macpherson struts?

I don't think I could stand to go back.

precisely. the ones after had macphersons too.

Wouldn't a McPherson strut technically be simpler than double wishbone? :P

Well that makes me sad. With all the talk in the RCR of the 2002 Civic having really nice suspension (what is 'independent rear suspension' in a FWD car anyways?) I expected double wishbones :/

Technically, but a double wishbone is lighter and better for handling.
When a strut compresses the camber angle of the wheel changes, but a double wishbone maintains its camber.

I had a 98 black EX coupe. They are very rewarding in corners, just underpowered elsewhere.
And as someone else already pointed out, civic went MacPherson after 2000.

Time for a Mustang II swap.

I'm saving up to replace the D16 with a VTEC powerplant. 7.1 second 0-60 sounds quite lovely.

Murderofficechair?
Murderfoldingchair?
Murderpatioset?

If you're going that route, go B16A2 and add a hondata flash. At least that's what the 20 year old me is saying in my head.

That sounds so awesome and so expensive I really want to do it

They initially used wishbones because it allowed a lower hoodline. That helped them keep the CG down low, which is why those Civics are so scrappy around a track. Later, European pedestrian safety standards (and then American and Japanese) required cars to have higher and higher hoods, so the lower profile of the double wishbone suspension was no longer necessary from a packaging stand point. They figured that if the gubberment is gonna make them use a tall hood line, then they might as well fill the damn thing up.

Double wishbone's prime advantage is that it allows the whole car to have a lower CG. McPherson struts are tall (because the coil has to be above the tire) and necessitate a high hood line to cover them up.

Build a junk-yard turbo motor, skip the VEETAK. You can do that for cheap and the parts are all over the internet and cheap. If you really have to have that cam change-over shit, go find a smashed RSX-S and build a K20 car. VETAAAKK D16s are limp and not as much fun as you think. The step up from what you have is barely noticeable.

There is a significant difference between 6th and 7 th gen Civic.
